A six-screen cinema opened in Beverley – and among its credits is a northern Lincolnshire accountancy firm.

The Parkway Entertainment Company, with its showpiece venue in Cleethorpes, has opened its fourth cinema in the East Yorkshire market town’s multi-million pound Flemingate Shopping Centre.

The six-screen complex includes a theatre and stage, 1,000 seats, a café bar and function room.

RNS Chartered Accountants, based in Scunthorpe, Brigg and Barton, has acted for the Parkes family, the owners of the cinema, for many years.

Parkway Managing Director Scott Marshall said RNS was an important element of a successful team behind the new venture.

“As an independent business, we only invest where we believe we can make a real difference to the community, and Beverley is exactly the right place for our newest cinema,” said Scott.

“We’re very proud of what has been achieved and delighted to be part of the new and exciting Flemingate Shopping Centre. I know the cinema will add to and enhance the visitor experience.”

He thanked RNS senior partner Ian Pounder and associate partner Alex Douglas for their support over many years.

“Our links to RNS go back to when the late Gerald and wife Denise Parkes founded the Parkway company in 1983.

“We’ve forged a great partnership and, specifically for Beverley, they’ve provided invaluable support with their forecasting and business planning.”

Alex congratulated the Parkway on its latest venture.

“This is a great facility for the people of Beverley and East Yorkshire,” said Alex.

“The cinema is at the heart of a fantastic new leisure complex right in the heart of the town.

“We’re delighted to have played a support role in a tremendous cast behind the opening of this cinema.”

The new Parkway covers 33,723 sq ft and incorporates the latest state-of-the-art projection and Dolby sound, including 3-D technology.

Scott said: “It is not just the latest spectacular film releases that Beverley will experience. There will be classics too.

“In the new year, lovers of independently-minded cinema will welcome our special seasons and events plus there will be senior screen mornings to enjoy a brew and a chat as well as a film.

“We will also be offering comedy, music and theatrical shows and the best theatre, opera and ballet from across the world, broadcast live onto the big screen. These have proved extremely popular in our other cinemas.

“The Parkway's Cafe Bar will be great place to relax before and after a film or even if you are not watching a movie.

“The Art Deco surroundings, great selection of drinks and nibbles along with coffee specially roasted by The Blending Room are sure to make this a popular destination in Beverley.”

The Flemingate Shopping Centre is located a short walk from Beverley Minster and, as well as the six-screen cinema, includes shops, restaurants, a hotel and a 500-space car park.
