Automatic enrolment, or ‘auto-enrolment’, is the legal requirement for employers to enrol eligible workers into a workplace pension scheme if they are not already in one. It is being rolled out in stages, with the largest employers first, and next it will be the turn of the smallest employers.

October 2012 was the first staging date (ie the date by which employees must be auto-enrolled) for employers, and applied to those with more than 250 members in the PAYE scheme. The roll-out then moved on to employers with between 50 and 250 members, then 30 to 49 members and finally those with fewer than 30 members are going to be brought in.

The Pensions Regulator is now sending letters to this last group advising them of the final date by which they must be compliant.

RNS is well equipped and able to deal with Auto-enrolment for your business with pensions specialists in RNS Independent Financial Advisers and a full payroll bureau service in house.
